January 2006: We've so busy DOING projects for the
past six months, I haven't taken the time to write about them.
I update VJzoo.com more regularly - events being posted at VJzoo.com/ev.htm
(including 3minutes.net workshops) and completed pieces being
posted at VJzoo.com/thhybrid.htm
- including downloadable video and desktop wallpapers. My New
Years' resolution with 3minutes.net is to try to get all the eGroup
members to actually start sharing material online to get some
collaborative pieces being made that DON'T involve me, Jasper,
Ellen :)

July 2005: It's all happening! - Jasper and I just
got back from performing in the Liquid
Architecture Festival in Melbourne, and are thrilled that

we're doing live performances as follows:
- Wednesday
20th July - Teknikunst "Impakt" screening in Melbourne
(Baba Avtomat & the Cylons)
- Tuesday
2nd August - Perth Institute of Contemporary Art's "Putting
on an Act" short perfromance festival. (Sea Songs, a trilogy
of 3minute pieces performed live, including Taiko, Salute the
Sunset and 2 new works)
- Tuesday
16 August - The Harries Digital Art Awards screening, Brisbane
(Baba Avtomat & the Cylons)

May 2005: Meeting
at Jasper & Kat's to discuss submission for PICA Putting on
an Act series - Kat to submit application this week. Deadline
for first Cycle put to 30th September 2005 since we don't have
any funding & so have to take it all slowly... Various other
deadlines coming up soon - Electrofringe 30th June, Moving Pictures
Festival 30th June, ArtsWA 8th July.

May 2005: Submitted
application to OzCo Dance Board for a specific project involving
motion-detection and interactive animation/dance experimental
multimedia work development. Included new member Trish, a computer
science graduate who's research has focussed on human/computer
interfaces.
10
May 2005: Meeting
at Ellen's to discuss funding applications and also to introduce
new member, Dmitry, a young Russian animator/illustrator. Ideas
for a collaboration involving Dmitry's animation in an interactive
dance performance were discussed, including looking at various
software options - cinema 4D, eyesweb, lifeforms.

April 2005: Busy, busy - Jasper and Kat
had a week off work, finished the first two 3minutes.net works:
Two extremes
in both content and style. One's a pretty, flowing fairytale/dream
& the other's a dark, jagged VJ nightmare.
Submitted
one or both to Optronica,
Experimenta,
REVelation,
ABC2
as appropriate, and also finally submitted the YCulture application
to PropelArts
requesting funding for 6 workshops and a short DVD run aimed at
local schools via Media and Dance teachers.

March 2005: Hands-on workshop at the beach at sunset.
Kat and Jas shot Ellen dancing in the water at Cottesloe Beach
(southern end, known as "Dog Beach" - less crowded
than the touristy bit). Not exactly easy as the waves pull
the sand from underneath you - next time, we'll put the cameras
in ziplock plastic bags at least (who can afford an underwater
housing?). Ellen has applied for specific funding with the
Australia Council's "Take
Your Partner" Program to do more of these experimental
collaborations with Jas & Kat, hopefully resulting in
some short dance films (if the funding application is successful).

March 2005:
"Dancers
at the Don" organised by Ellen (Flutterby
Productions) went really well. Around a dozen contemporary
short dance works were created by and performed by a range of
artists, including other WAAPA graduates. Two short films created
from the first workshop footage by Kat & Jas were shown, featuring
music by Lucia's band The Plastik Scene and Audio Cephlon.
Jan-March
2005 : Kat & Ellen researching Festivals, funding
opportunities, competitions etc, site and eGroup updated.
February
2005: Some cool new members in the collective
- animators, film-makers, musicians. |

January 2005:
Our first funding meeting went very well. We've received some
excellent advice and are now in the process of developing our
first funding application. The funding for which we're applying
is a YCulture grant from PropelArts,
so our emphasis (if successful in obtaining the grant) will be
on under-26's in the first cycle of the Project. That's not to
say people of all ages can't submit work, but our activities will
target younger people - for example, working with schools and
colleges. It's worth noting that 3 of the 4 current Committee
members are under 26.

January 2005: Our second hands-on workshop. At
Kat and Jasper's place, Tomas came around and we shot footage
to go with his music. May result in a clip for his forthcoming
single, but also 3minutes.net material, so we're counting
it as a 3minutes workshop :) more |

January 2005: Redesigned site with categories to include
all necessary info about the project for potential artists, sponsors
etc.

January 2005: New name, new direction. The creative
core of another project split off to form 3minutes.net. We are
forming our Business Plan and documenting the goals we want to
achieve.

December 2004: Our first hands-on workshop.
The
studios were SO hot at the end of a 38 degree day that it
was amazing Ellen could dance for so long, and give such
a beautiful, graceful performance. Much of the video rig
overheated and misbehaved, but a good deal of interesting
footage was burnt directly to DVD from the video mixing
desk despite the technical problems.
Ellen
changed costumes a few times to see what worked. Black,
flowing dance skirt and leotard, vintage slips and then
a saucy red velvet number.
The
workshop was at Ausdance in the King St Arts Centre, which
we've discovered in summer is NOT a great rehearsal venue.
Allegedly it's got evaporative aircon, but due to the intense
sun through the atrium earlier in the day, the studio was
stiflingly hot. Various video and computer equipment misbehaved,
but Ellen soldiered on admirably.
Kat
& Jas experimented with video feedback, both through
DV cam and also through a firewire webcam. Not many photos
were taken as we were busy jamming with the video feedback.

emails etc. |
