3minutes.net
will encourage cross-media collaboration by artists to develop
3 minute works for promotion to as wide an audience as possible
through a variety of media.
Our primary
goal is to develop cross-media relationships between artists including
(but not limited to):
- Video
artists / VJ’s
- Animators
-
Film-makers
-
Dancers / Choreographers
-
Poets / Writers
-
Musicians
-
Multimedia Artists
-
Sound Artists
-
Photographers
-
Performance Artists
We aim to
facilitate their collaboration and promote examples of their collaborative
works to an audience wider than that traditional for each discrete
artform.
This collaboration
could enhance both the artistic and commercial practice of the
individual artists, as well as being a nice, neat way to promote
a range of multimedia art to groups who traditionally may not
have much exposure to the Arts.
The project
has the potential to further the careers of even quite established
artists by challenging them to work in a format they’re
perhaps not used to, and also to expose them to a non-traditional
audience.
In addition,
there would be the opportunity for emerging artists to work with
more established artists in the collaborative spirit of the project.
This would ensure a succession of both artistic and skills-based
practice, which may reduce the drain of young artists to the Eastern
States.
Although we
are based in Perth, Western Australia, we hope to encourage creative
collaborations between artists from around the world. If you're
interested in joining the project, contact us from our About
Us page.
We are currently
in the very early stages of the project, and hope to document
the process of development on this site as we move along.
Our
goals, for want of somewhere better to put them are currently:
Website
3minutes.net to promote the project, scout for new
participants, give publicity to sponsors. This would be updated
on a very regular basis, and be core to development of the project.
eGroup and Bulletin
Board for participants to be able to keep in contact
with each other, find collaborators, arrange meetings, share ideas
and links, etc.
DVD production – a DVD
produced at least once, but perhaps quarterly on an ongoing basis
if the project is a success and there is sufficient high quality
cross-media work available. This would be available for sale,
or could also be the basis for a touring event (screening with
Q&A and some live elements).
Live Performance – To
launch the DVD, we would organise a live event involving projection,
live music, dance and performance. This would be approximately
one hour in duration and as with the DVD we would be aiming for
a non-traditional Arts audience so we would be keen to hold the
event at a venue such as the Fly By Night Musicians Club in Fremantle
(which has the added advantage of being a Healthways supported
venue and thus non-smoking, yay!)
Television – After production
of the first DVD, we would be keen to promote the material to
both local TV stations such as SBS and ABC, and also international
markets. The brief duration of each piece would make them ideal
inter-program filler, which should improve their marketability
over longer Arts films. In addition, the 3 minute format suits
music video shows and short film programs.
Festivals and Exhibitions
- Individual artists could market their works to international
film festivals, a number of which specialise in multimedia/new
media. Art Galleries could screen appropriate works, and participants
could use the DVD to promote their individual careers, secure
arts residencies, etc.
